Anna Rosina, together with husband Karl Heinrich, established and farmed the Kalleske vineyard from 1853 until the 1880s. They were amongst the earliest pioneers in the salubrious Barossa winegrowing village of Greenock. Old vines still eclipse the property and a 1940s planting of Grenache forms the backbone of Rosina. A component of Shiraz and a dash of Viognier contribute wonderful complexity. A juicy, mouthwatering Rosé with plenty of fruit and a touch of restrained sweetness, from grapes harvested early in the season to capture vibrancy.

An assemblage of old vines Grenache and Shiraz with a smaller portion of Mataro, grown to the Kalleske's organic farm. Named after Troy Kalleske's ninety year old grandfather Clarence, who farmed the vineyards from the late 1920s until his retirement in the 1990s. Clarry was the fourth generation to tend vines on the family farm, established by his great grandparents who migrated from Prussia aboard the Prince George in 1838. Many years were spent by Clarry pruning, hand picking and nurturing the Kalleske vineyards.

Tucked away off the beaten track along Godings Road, a rustic barn offers fantastic vistas of the rolling Moorooduc countryside. The misty mornings and generous afternoon sunlight create a mesoclime which encourages the vines to yield small bunches of intensely flavoured Shiraz. The best bunches are identified, gently picked and gingerly sorted, destemmed and open fermented, hand plunged and filled to a mix of French oak barriques for malolactic and ten months élevage, bottled unfined for optimal sauvage appeal.

Excellent Langtons Classified. John Duval's aim with Plexus is to express the wide spectrum of red fruit flavours from Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre, but also provide structure with a seamless balance and long finish. A low percentage of new oak adds complexity without dominating the berry fruit. Grenache is sourced from old bush vines fifty to sixty years of age from the Stockwell, Light Pass and Krondorf regions. Mourvedre is collated from old bush vines, some over a century old, grown to precious little sites in the Light Pass and Krondorf regions.

Plexus is designed to express the wide spectrum of red fruit flavours from Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre, but also provide structure with a seamless balance and long finish. Traditional, low intervention winemaking techniques are employed, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, while assuring great potential for development.

An artisanal, single vineyard effort of 250 cases production by small batch winemaker Gary Mills, ex of Margaret River's Amberley Estate and California's Ridge Vineyard. Mills will pick five or six sites per vintage and retain the best for his Jamsheed single vineyard series. Yarra Valley Syrahs are a favourite of Mills for their superb perfume and large chalky, ageable tannins. Purity, intensity and texture define Jamsheeds approach to Syrah, a treat for enthusiasts of the pastoral genre, exhibiting spiced musk fruit flavours and evocative earth characters.

Six parts Grenache and four of Syrah, for over half a century, Parrallele 45 has been assembled from a coterie of Paul Jaboulet vineyards across the greater Cotes du Rhone. Named after the latitude which is closest to the cellars of Maison Paul Jaboulet Aine, Parrallele 45 is a wine of exceptional freshness, aromatic richness and fleshiness of palate. An articulation of the salubrious aspects, vigorous climes and remarkable soils, which combine to form one of the old world's most ancient winegrowing regions.

Very much in the style of a Rhône Syrah, aromatic, elegantly structured and suave, offering violet and white pepper notes, blueberries and soy over fine cherry tannins. Just a dash of Viognier imparts ethereal, teasing perfumes of honeysuckle and turkish delight. Fruit is hand picked from choice vineyards in the Pyrenees and Yarra Valley, treated to a course of old world style, whole berry ferments. Syrah is a great food wine, match with capsicum recipes and wild rice, the innocent bystander loves to feed!

A block or two of tough, inhospitable soils on the Hutton Vale property were planted to Grenache in the 1960s. Growing conditions were so disfavourable that many of the vines failed and had to be replaced, a highly opportune setback which turned out to be a windfall, as the recalcitrant parcels were mistakenly planted with Mataro, the stylistic soulmate of Grenache. Fermented on skins for a week, followed by two years in seasoned and new French oak puncheons, loaded with red and black fruits, savouryness and licorice, a fine tannin line, supple and soft.

There are over thirty hectares of superior estate plantings on the Hugo family property, much of the harvest goes to some of Australia's most esteemed brands, the best parcels however, are reserved and released under the Hugo label. Consistency of quality from vintage to vintage is the objective, making wine from the pick of estate grown fruit makes it a reality. A precious component of low cropped, dry grown old vines Grenache, greatly enhances the depth of flavour and overall complexity. A Rosé of precociousness and vitality, to match with salmon recipes, duck prosciutto and all pink fare.

A profoundly structured, concentrated Rhône style GSM from hand tended vineyards, at the very heart of Barossa which date back to the 1800s. The old, deep rooted Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre vines accept their fate without blinking, perfectly timing their harvest to accompany the later ripening, lower alcohol Carignan and Cinsault, a small yet important part of the Miss Harry accord. The Sexton family live in the middle of their eighty acre vineyard on the high north face of the Warramate Ranges, within the dress circle of Yarra Valley's most eminent estates. The vineyard is introducing organic practises with the express purpose of further distinguishing the site and improving grape and wine quality. An assemblage of Pinot Noir and Shiraz, treated to a traditional course of ferments and judicious term of oak, fashioned into an immensely satisfying, seamless yet complex and engaging, bucolic old world style.

Equal parts Shiraz and Grenache, a tenth of Mourverdre, all picked off blocks of dry grown McLaren Vale vines, treated to a traditional old world vinification and sent to a selection of American oak hogsheads and puncheons for an extended twenty months maturation. Fire Block was excised from a large grazing property in 1923, out of concern that sparks from passing locomotives on the new Clare Valley railway could start bushfires. Situated on the western slope of the Valley, established to vines in 1926, the gnarled old veterans of Fire Block are grown to traditional dryland viticulture, with no systemic sprays or chemical fertilizers. From one of the most parched sites in Valley Clare, the vines sprout bunches of tiny shrivelled berries, yielding small volumes of intensely flavoured juices, to be vinified by the eminent O'Leary Walker winemaking team.

The essential Cotes du Rhone cepage, crafted almost exclusively from the Grenache of Grand Prebois and Syrah of Vinsobres. The inclusion of Mourverdre completes the holy trinty while contributing savouryness and pastoral charm. Filled with the fragrant fruit of Vallee Rhone and Mistral spice of Provence, Perrin Reserve makes a match with continental style grills and crumbed veal, slow braised joints and ham.

Dominated by Grenache, with slightly lesser components of Syrah and Mouvedre, off vines planted to alluvial alpine deposits and rolled pebbles over a former sea bed of the miocene epoch. An assemblage of estate grown fruit, with parcels from a seven hectare property to the west of Chateau Beaucastel and salubrious sites near the center of the village at Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Batches are vinfied according to the exacting Beaucastel technique of destemming and warming the fruit before treating the musts to a traditional south Rhone style of ferment.

A decidedly cold climate style of Shiraz from some of the chilliest terroirs in the land. Its piquantly spiced black pepper nose, blackberry bouquets and winsome floral notes, waft on to a palate of sweetly dark berry flavours, medium bodied Rhone style of delightfully chewy tannins and persistent brambleberry acidity, resolving on a long savoury finish.
